Applied Wing Chun Butterfly Swords (Sifu's Series) (a.k.a. Wing Chun Butterfly Knives, Bart Jarm Do, Bot Jaam Dao, Hudiedao)
The Applied Wing Chun Butterfly Swords are a very limited edition collector's item (only 4 sharps (6 blunt) available to the general public). They are beautiful and very comfortable 12" stabbers.
These swords were designed for the students of Sifu Duncan Leung's Applied Wing Chun. They are based on comments of top-level students of Sifu Leung, including Sifu Larry Saccoia. They are slightly different than the standard "Duncan" swords sold on his site which are very triangular in shape, but they keep all the functionality that the lineage needs, and actually improve upon a number of functions. These are great swords for this lineage and many others as well.
The only real difference between these pairs and Duncan's is the rounding of the blade's belly. His blade is not rounded and remains wide down to the D-guard. Many people actually prefer the blade rounded as it is better balanced and can slice much better.
"I received the swords on Saturday and I am very pleased, I found them to be extremely effective for the way I use them. They are perfectly weighted and balanced - the correct amount of the lower blade is blunted and the top part of the blade has a perfect cutting edge. The handle feels very good and perfectly centered with the blade that allows for fast quick cuts with the flick of my wrist. The blade is very responsive and fast!!
The downward angle of the blade and swage at the tip make thrusting stabs easy and deadly. The quillon may not be perfect for flipping the blade, but excellent for trapping and the sword still is very comfortable in a reverse grip. Basically, this sword has all the design of Duncan's sword with a better-rounded belly on the blade - I am extremely pleased!!" Sifu Larry Saccoia, 40 Year Student of Sifu Leung, Instructor Wing Chun University on Applied Wing Chun.
