He very kindly gave Jeff Modell and Modell Design LLC permission to make Butterfly Swords based on his famous Tiburon knife. The blade and handle attempt to capture the spirit of Todd Begg's Tiburon but are substantially modified to allow for sword length and heavy use. Tiburon Butterfly Swords - First Made Model

Todd Begg is one of the top U.S. custom knife makers and the star of the "Blade Brothers" Discovery Channel television series. He very kindly gave Jeff Modell and Modell Design LLC permission to make Butterfly Swords based on his famous Tiburon knife. The blade and handle attempt to capture the spirit of Todd Begg's Tiburon but are substantially modified to allow for sword length and heavy use. The handle provides an excellent grip and unusually good control due to the width, thickness, and curve of the concavity adjacent to the rear three fingers.

The index finger indent, like all finger indents, is a bit finicky. It fits our 185 pounds 5-foot 10.5-inch tester's hand perfectly (the radius is based on a quarter) but is a bit small for our 240 pounds large-handed tester's hand. We plan a larger radius for the final limited production design, which means it will fit a large hand much better, and accommodate other hands.

This pair is our sterile (i.e., no logo) prototype. It was made by Forge Master K. Ali (who does the rest of our high-end work).

The photos show the actual knives you will be receiving. Every knife is handmade and differs slightly, so we have provided the key measurements.

D-Guard Material: Cast AISI 304 stainless steel.
Quillion Design: Hybrid Flipping/Trapping.
Knuckle Bow Design: Rounded, minimal extra interior space.
Handle Type: Individual Full Handles.
Handle Pins: 6 Cylinders (3 diameters) in a pattern. One medium cylinder not in good alignment.
Handle Material: Black Linen MicartaÈ-type material w/White Liners.
Grip Style: Full handles concave with index finger indent. The indent is roughly a quarter radius and fits 185-pound sample person quite well but does not fit 240-pound large handed person.

Balance Point: Roughly 5/8" towards the tip of the blade from the hilt. Not safe to flip.

Sheath: Two heavy duty black leather sheaths with white thread, one for each sword. Do not store swords in leather sheaths long term because the chemicals in leather can corrode/tarnish metal.
