These swords are a modern day interpretation of authentic antique Hudiedao estimated to be at least 150 years old, and retain some of the details of the originals like the blood groove, sharper tip and raised "D" guard accents, while incorporating modern day advances like the finest German D2 steel, full tang and laminated wood handles.
From Sifu Tim Lee: "They are a hybrid design, because the Wing Chun Bat Jaun dao form I learned utilizes mainly chopping and slicing movements, with no flipping and only a few stabbing movements. As such I kept the basic original stabbing design, but widened the width of the blade to allow for better chopping without going super wide on the end as many chopping style daos are, which to me seem top heavy. I think my design allows for a point-of-balance that makes it easier to quickly maneuver or flip these dao in close quarters than the traditional wide choppers."
