Are you just starting Wing Chun, or unsure of which product is best for you? This is where you should be! Wing Chun can be quite confusing when you are new due to the fact that it is a very personal style based on theory, rather than Kata or forms. This means that almost every Wing Chun teacher you see will do things differently. So how do you know which books/videos to start with?
First, the most important thing is to find a local teacher. If you have one, then you will most likely want videos that show a similar style to your teacher's. To do this, you will need to know your lineage. (Who was your teacher's teacher's teacher, and so on). Once you have that information you will want to look for videos by people who have the same lineage.
If you do not have a local teacher, then you can pick any Sifu on the site to learn from. If you are looking to dig deep, pick a Sifu who has put out a lot of material. Our suggestion is to buy a single video from 3-4 different teachers and watch them all. Whichever teacher you like the best is the one you should study from. Not everyone likes the same things, and Wing Chun is a very personal art. The best videos to start with are the ones on Wing Chun's first form, Sil Lum Tao (Siu Nim Tao, etc). This is the foundation of your training.
We've listed some of the most popular beginner videos and equipment below. All are different and most focus on the basics. Grab a few and figure out who the best teacher is for you. Wing Chun is an exciting martial art and we hope you enjoy your journey!
